Stop being afraid to fail!

June 28, 2014

Out of everything I have ever learnt, this is the one thing that I wish somebody would have told me earlier…

You see, I thought success looked like a ladder or a staircase – that straight, steady line of progression gradually working its way skywards.

I was however completely wrong. I’m glad I was wrong. It can be so depressing when you feel that you should be moving upwards all of the time and it’s just not happening. It can put you off your step (or lose your motivation) and sometimes, just make you wonder what the point of it all is.

However the true representation of success shows many dips, backward turns and at times, just downright chaos! If you take a look at the below image you will see what I mean!

By simply understanding how success looks, you can prepare yourself for it and learn what to expect. Things are not always going to go your way – set-backs occur and things will and do happen, forcing you to take time out to review your current strategy.

The key to dealing with these twists and turns is preparation. Having a back-up plan and just generally having a strategy in place to deal with issues as they arise (which they will), can help to prevent the same thing happening again.

Once learnt, you can apply your game plan to all sorts of different scenarios. For example, if (and we hope not), you did end up in a job that you hated, you could take what you have learnt and apply it to work on your exit strategy.

No matter which course you take there are always options and with time, everything and anything can be figured out…
